What is GRE
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is an aptitude test required for many universities around the world. Not only for engineering and technology students but also for business schools it is one of the major criteria to get admission and fund. It is a computer-based, multiple-choice standardized exam. It was developed by ETS to provide a platform to assess the level of students/applicants using a common ground. Besides, your academic results and achievements, the graduate admission committee put a lot of weight on a good GRE score. So, let's begin How to study for the GRE in a month
GRE sections
The exam mainly evaluates your understanding of algebra, arithmetic, geometry, data analysis, and also basic college-level vocabulary. Further, it evaluates your understanding of written materials, how you interpret those, and your problem-solving merit. There are three sections in a GRE test that include analytical writing, quantitative reasoning, and verbal reasoning. In addition, you will face one extra section of either verbal or quantitative reasoning in the exam. To know more about the GRE exam refer to this website.
How to study for the GRE in a month
Prep courses- There are tons of prep courses available to study GRE and get the desired score. However, students get puzzled about choosing the best course or materials for them. Based on the author's experience and doing a survey on students who did extremely well 330+, I would suggest going for Magoosh prep courses. This course is not expensive and the website is also user-friendly.
Self-studying- This is one of the best methods to study for the GRE. Students can figure out what books they need to read and where they should improve. There are tons of available study material on the internet. Spend an hour to find out all the materials you need to study.
GRE one-month intensive plan
Plan your time and use it very wisely. Follow the below instructions
- Total study time 120-150 hours. I know, its a lot for one month, but it's possible even if you are working full time. For full-time students, its easy to manage this time in one month.
- You have to be regular, study 6 days a week.
- For this one month, focus only on GRE and nothing else.
The plan 1
First 15 days, only concentrate on the below topics and nothing else.
- Integers, geometry, and algebra
- Vocabulary memorization
- Text completion
- Fraction and percentage
- Analytical writing
- Reading comprehension
- Triangles, Ratios, and fractions
- Sets and rate and work
- Probability and data interpretation sets
For all books contact Hsabroad team from Contact us.
Tactics for the first 15 days
- Review all the books, if you still find problems with any topic see short videos from youtube on those topics by just searching with the topic name.
- Solve as many problems as possible. then do the practice test to figure out your lacking on those topics and revise again.
- Make notes of your mistakes and keep revising them every 4/5 days.
- Work on your English daily, to increase your reading speed read "The Economist" daily. This is the best magazine to practice reading speed and understanding.
- Take one day off every week to get energy and remove monotony.
The plan 2
For the next 13 days, follow the below instructions.
Take as many practice tests as possible. Below a table of some tests available for free is given. For the first 5 tests, do not consider time and try to correct as many questions as you can. Then find out the mistakes and practice those sections again.
For the rest of the tests, take those tests as if you writing the main GRE exam. Again, find out all the mistakes you did and practice those sections again.

The plan 3
This is the day before your exam. Sit back and relax. You have worked very hard and you just need to keep your focus now.
The exam day
Its showtime.
Some extra motivation
The plan may look very intense to you, but remember, you have worked very hard to build your profile so far. This may be the last step of your preparation. Some extra effort may lead you to your dream university. If you are targetting the USA or some big universities in Europe, show them you are the student they need. Live this one month for your dream and enjoy the rest of your life. If necessary, print out this page and tick the task which is completed. If you finish something ahead of your time, spend the remaining time on the next task. Follow all the instructions, and you will succeed. Remember, you have just one month- make the most of it.
What is a good GRE score?
From my experience, I can say that anything above 305 is a good score. However, the cut mark for GRE depends on the university and subject rank you are applying to. Further, for an engineering student, you should get 160+ in the mathematics section, which also goes for applied mathematics-related subjects. In short, the higher score you get the better, therefore, try to get as high score as possible.
